Los ataques perpetrados por Estados Unidos contra embarcaciones en el Caribe y el Pacífico oriental han matado al menos a 221 personas desde el mes de septiembre de 2025. Hasta el momento, el Gobierno de Trump no ha proporcionado pruebas que vinculen a las embarcaciones o a sus pasajeros con el tráfico de drogas. El 14 de junio, un sicario mató a tiros a la fiscal ecuatoriana Alexandra Bravo en la ciudad de Manta. Bravo estaba investigando los ataques estadounidenses contra tres embarcaciones ecuatorianas en los que sobrevivieron 36 pasajeros, muchos de los cuales relatan haber sufrido, presuntamente, torturas por parte de hombres estadounidenses armados que vestían uniformes militares estadounidenses y que estaban a bordo de un barco patrullero con bandera estadounidense.

Las denuncias que Bravo estaba investigando sobre los ataques a embarcaciones y las torturas cometidas por Estados Unidos “son una expresión de la dictadura militar respaldada por Estados Unidos que se consolida cada vez más en Ecuador”, plantea Camila Lourdes Galarza, periodista de investigación y activista sindical de Quito. Lourdes Galarza señala que, en 2025, durante los comicios en los cuales el presidente ecuatoriano Daniel Noboa fue reelegido, exmercenarios de la empresa Blackwater patrullaban los centros de votación a punta de pistola.
