In Deutschland im Exil lebende Kubaner sind besorgt über Trumps Drohungen, die „Kontrolle“ über den Inselstaat zu übernehmen. Deutschland und Kuba verbindet eine enge historische Beziehung. Die beiden sozialistischen Staaten, Kuba und die ehemalige DDR, unterhielten enge kulturelle Beziehungen. Bis 1989 waren rund 30.000 Kubaner in die ehemalige DDR gezogen, um dort eine Berufsausbildung zu absolvieren, sich weiterzubilden, Arbeit zu finden oder zu studieren. René Limonte-Brett ist einer von vielen Kubanern, die diese Möglichkeit genutzt haben.
