La produzione avrebbe inondato il mercato delle droghe sintetiche europeo, con profitti illeciti stimati per oltre 630 milioni di euro. Le spedizioni, arrivate alla Cargo City dell’Aeroporto di Malpensa dalla Cina, sono state intercettate dalle Fiamme Gialle del Gruppo di Malpensa che hanno individuato le confezioni perfettamente sigillate ad indicare una produzione di tipo “industriale”, il cui contenuto ha subito destato sospetto: granelli di povere bianca e scaglie giallastre non apparivano coerenti con il contenuto dichiarato all’importazione.
