Daniel Douglas of Virginia Tech presents "Introduction to the theory of Fock and Goncharov" at IPAM's Quantum topology, character varieties and low-dimensional geometry Tutorials.Abstract: We will review the theory of Fock and Goncharov, as initiated by their landmark early 00s paper "Moduli spaces of local systems and higher Teichmüller theory". This will be an introductory talk for beginners, who have not necessarily ever encountered these ideas before, with a special emphasis on the theory's origination in hyperbolic geometry à la Thurston and Penner.
