Turkey’s parliament has ratified the Mecca (Makkah) Pact with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, but only after an uproar in which 119 Turkish MPs voted No. Opposition lawmakers warned that the pact could drag Turkey into Pakistan’s war with nuclear-armed India, and the government had to promise that nothing happens without Turkey’s consent.
