In Rai ho libertà totale, come l'ho sempre avuta d'altronde", così Caterina Balivo ospite nella redazione di Fanpage.it, parlando del suo lavoro sull'ammiraglia della Tv di Stato alla conduzione de La volta buona.Volto di punta del pomeriggio di Rai 1, rivendica la sua indipendenza e il suo modo di fare televisione: "In tre anni non mi è mai stato chiesto né di evitare un argomento né di non invitare qualcuno" e descrive il modo in cui è tornata nella pomeridiana: "È stato un ritorno a casa, ero cambiata, più donna e consapevole, penso che anche il pubblico abbia faticato a riconoscermi". Spazio poi a una riflessione sulla tv di oggi che è "piena di talk sulla cronaca perché mancano i soldi, i programmi belli sono quelli che hanno idee ma anche budget" e sugli ascolti tv che insieme allo share "sono il faro ma bisogna saperli leggere". Non manca la ferita più profonda, quella legata al ritorno al lavoro subito dopo la nascita della secondogenita Cora: "Mi hanno giudicata solo perché volevo tornare a fare un programma che avevo costruito.
