Kemungkinan ini muncul setelah disinggung oleh Presiden Amerika Serikat (AS) Donald Trump.
Dikutip dari Al Jazeera, Putin menerima pertanyaan dari wartawan di sela-sela Forum Ekonomi Internasional di St. Petersburg, Rabu (18/6/2025).
Wartawan tersebut bertanya bagaimana reaksi Rusia jika AS atau Israel berupaya membunuh Khemenei.
Namun, Putin memberi jawaban bijak dengan mengatakan bahwa dirinya sama sekali tak ingin membahas kemungkinan tersebut.
"Saya bahkan tidak ingin membahas kemungkinan ini. Saya tidak mau," ucap Putin.
Rusia kini fokus pada upaya mendamaikan Iran dan Israel sambil memastikan bahwa program nuklir Teheran tetap berjalan.
Putin yakin bahwa nuklir Iran dibangun untuk kepentingan damai, bukan pembuatan senjata atom.
Ia menyebut, sekitar 200 warga Rusia masih bekerja di pembangkit listrik tenaga nuklir Bushehr yang dibangun Rusia di Iran selatan.
Putin telah mendapat jaminan dari Israel terkait keselamatan mereka.
Sebelumnya, Trump mengaku bahwa AS mengetahui keberadaan Khamenei.
Ia pun sesumbar bahwa pasukannya bisa menghabisi pemimpin tersebut kapan saja.
Namun, Trump memilih untuk tidak melakukannya sekarang.
Sementara itu, Israel mengecam Khamenei atas serangan rudal hari ini yang menghancurkan rumah sakit di dekat Tel Aviv.
