Eksplorasi gas alam di wilayah tersebut sebelumnya menimbulkan sengketa dengan militan Hizbullah.
Hal ini karena lokasinya berada di garis merah perbatasan laut Lebanon.
Dilansir Al Jazeera, produksi gas di Karish mencapai 69 miliar meter kubik saat itu.
Namun sengketa itu akhirnya terselesaikan setelah ditengahi Amerika Serikat (AS).
Dari hasil kesepakatan, Israel mempertahankan hak penuh untuk mengembangkan ladang gas Karish.
Sementara Lebanon mempertahankan hak penuh di Qana yang berada di dekatnya.
