Tensions erupt in parliament over constitutional reform as police intervene
A heated debate over proposed constitutional reforms has triggered chaos inside the National Assembly, with police intervening as opposition members clashed with parliamentary leadership.The reforms, which are set to be put to a national referendum, would shift power away from the presidency and strengthen the role of parliament. Supporters say the changes improve oversight and democratic accountability, while critics warn they could destabilise the country’s political system.
Outside parliament, security forces cordoned off key roads as opposition groups called for protests, highlighting deep political divisions between the presidency and parliament.
