Run Umbrel on Any Old Laptop or PC! #bitcoin #Bitcoinnode #umbrel

Got an old laptop collecting dust? Put it to work by installing UmbrelOS and running your own Bitcoin node!

If you’ve tried doing this before but ran into frustrating errors like:
"Invalid signature detected. Check Secure Boot Policy in Setup."
"Checking media presence... No media present"
... don’t worry — I’ve got the solution for you!

In this video, I walk you through how I got UmbrelOS running on my old MSI CX62 laptop from 2016 and how you can do the same — even if your hardware seems too outdated.

✅ What You’ll Need:
An old computer, ideally with an SSD.
(2TB is ideal for a full Bitcoin node, but you can also run a pruned node or use Umbrel for other apps like NextCloud on smaller storages.)

A Ventoy memory stick.
Here’s a great tutorial on using Ventoy by Ask the Computer Guy:

Commands to Run in UmbrelOS:
sudo apt install grub-efi
sudo update-grub
sudo grub-install

UmbrelOS isn’t just for running a Bitcoin node — you can also:
- Host your own Lightning wallet
- Run a Nostr relay
- Use NextCloud to replace Google Drive
- Spin up your own self-hosted AI apps (on more powerful machines with a capable GPU)
And much more!
