Umumnya, berziarah dilakukan ke makam keluarga yang telah meninggal dunia.
Rasulullah SAW bersabda;
"Aku tadinya melarang kalian ke kubur, kini aku telah diizinkan menziarahi kubur ibuku, maka ziarahilah kubur karena itu mengingatkan kamu kepada akhirat." (HR at-Tirmidzi)
Atas dasar ini, mayoritas ulama berpendapat bahwa menziarahi kubur merupakan anjuran atau sunnah, tetapi bukan merupakan keharusan termasuk di bulan Ramadhan.

1. Berwudhu terlebih dahulu sebelum berziarah.
2. Ketika masuk pintu gerbang pemakaman, hendaknya mengucap salam.
3. Menyampaikan doa-doa kepada Allah yang berisi mohon ampunan, rahmat dan keselamatan.
