Updated: Press dinner shooting in D.C.: What we know so far

A man fired gunshots during a press dinner at the White House. While President Trump and Vice-President Vance were rushed to safety, the alleged perpetrator was overpowered by security agents. One agent was wounded but is not in critical condition.

Three DW journalists who attended the event, Ines Pohl, Janelle Dumalaon and Misha Komadovsky, share their experience. DW also spoke to terrorism expert Hans-Jakob Schindler, asking him about security incidents involving the US president.

We also included an interview with Bruce Hoffman, a Senior Fellow for Counterterrorism and Homeland Security at the Council on Foreign Relations. Mr. Hoffman is the author of “God, Guns, and Sedition: Far-Right Terrorism in America.”
