Theo báo Giác Ngộ, xuất phát từ phản ánh và bức xúc của dư luận, nhất là từ bà con Khmer, về những lời nói và thái độ khiếm nhã của Đại đức Thích Nhuận Đức trong một video năm 2023, Giáo hội Phật giáo Việt Nam đã quyết định gia tăng hình thức kỷ luật đối với vị này. Quyết định này được đưa ra sau khi hội ý với chư Tôn giáo phẩm lãnh đạo Phật giáo Nam tông Khmer.
