Belakangan diketahui pemerintah Israel disebut tak mengetahui langkah militernya itu.
Ini bukan kali pertamanya tentara Israel membuat keputusan sendiri tanpa kabinet Israel.
Muhammad Abu Salmiya ditangkap pada 23 November 2023 lalu.
Ia kemudian dibebaskan setelah ditahan oleh Israel selama lebih dari 7 bulan.
Abu Salmiya dibebaskan ke Deir al-Balah di Gaza bersama sekitar 50 tahanan lainnya.
Dalam wawancara perdananya di Gaza, Abu Salamiya mengatakan anggota pemerintah Israel tak mengetahui dia dan puluhan tahanan lainnya dibebaskan.
Ia pun mengaku terkejut atas keputusan sepihak militer Israel membebaskan dirinya dan teman-temannya.
Di sisi lain ia menyebut dibebaskan tanpa syarat dan tuduhan.
Selama masa penahanan ia dilarang menemui pengacara.
Disebutnya tak ada organisasi internasional yang mengunjunginya atau tahanan lain di penjara.
Sebelumnya ia mengatakan para tahanan palestina dalam kondisi sangat keras di penjara-penjara Zionis.
Situasi seperti itu belum pernah terjadi sebelumnya sejak Nakba tahun 1948.
“Para tahanan menderita dalam kondisi yang sulit, termasuk kekurangan makanan, air dan mengalami penghinaan. Mereka menjadi sasaran segalanya,” katanya.
Mantan direktur tersebut lebih lanjut menyatakan bahwa dia menjadi sasaran penyiksaan, kekurangan makanan dan tidak menerima pengobatan.
