Ủy ban Giám Sát Hạ Viện Mỹ đã triệu tập Giám Đốc Sở Mật Vụ Kimberly Cheatle để tham gia phiên điều trần vào ngày 22/7, nhằm điều tra vụ ám sát cựu Tổng Thống Trump. Cơ quan Mật Vụ đã phản hồi và thông báo rằng họ sẵn sàng cung cấp thông tin cho Ủy ban về vụ tấn công này, được xem là vụ ám sát đầu tiên nhắm vào một Tổng Thống Mỹ hoặc ứng cử viên từ đảng lớn kể từ vụ Ronald Reagan. Sự việc gây ra câu hỏi lớn về an ninh của Sở Mật Vụ, đặc biệt là trong việc bảo vệ các cựu Tổng Thống như ông Trump. Nghi phạm Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20 tuổi, đã thực hiện vụ ám sát và bị tiêu diệt tại hiện trường. Crooks được xác nhận là đảng viên Cộng Hòa và có liên quan đến chiến dịch tranh cử của ông Trump. Sau vụ việc, các biện pháp an ninh bổ sung đã được áp dụng cho chiến dịch tranh cử của ông Trump. Ông Trump đã rời khỏi khu vực Butler, Pennsylvania sau vụ xả súng và hiện tại được cho là ổn định.
