Diketahui pesta rakyat itu menewaskan tiga orang karena warga berdesak-desakan masuk Pendopo Garut pada Jumat (18/7/2025) demi mendapat makan gratis.
Didampingi sang istri, Maula menyampaikan bela sungkawa dan mengaku sangat terpukul atas kejadian tersebut.
Ia menegaskan bahwa niat awal acara adalah ingin membahagiakan warga, namun situasi di lapangan tidak terkendali.
"Tidak ada satu pun niat untuk menyakiti atau membuat celaka. Niat kami sangat tulus membahagiakan warga Garut yang datang memberikan doa restu," kata Maula saat konferensi pers di Rumah Dinas Wakil Bupati Garut, Sabtu (19/7/2025).
Maula bersama istrinya mengaku sudah menemui dua dari tiga keluarga korban.
Selain itu, ia dan sang istri juga sudah diperiksa oleh pihak kepolisian.
Keduanya berkomitmen untuk mengikuti seluruh proses hukum yang berjalan sebagai bentuk tanggung jawab atas kejadian ini.
