Pakistan has clarified its position on the escalating Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia after earlier warnings that the newly signed Mecca Defence Pact could become operational. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in August, under which an armed attack against one member is regarded as an attack against all three.
But as Houthi attacks intensify against Saudi cities and infrastructure, Islamabad now says no military response is currently being discussed under the pact. Pakistan has condemned the attacks and warned Iran to rein in the Houthis, while keeping open the possibility of action under the agreement if circumstances change.
