Istri salah satu mantan Perdana Menteri Nepal tewas saat massa aksi membakar rumahnya yang berada di ibu kota Kathmandu.
Istri dari mantan Perdana Menteri Jhalanath Khanal bernama Rajyalaxmi Chitrakar tewas setelah terjebak kobaran api di dalam rumahnya.
Khanal sendiri menjabat sebagai Perdana Menteri Nepal selama enam bulan pada 2011 lalu.
Korban sempat dilarikan ke rumah sakit namun nyawanya tidak tertolong.
Sementara itu mantan Perdana Menteri Khanal tidak diketahui keberadaan atau kondisinya seusai rumahnya dibakar para demonstran.
Adapun rumah Khanal dan Chitrakar turut menjadi sasaran kemarahan demonstran yang dipimpin oleh Gen Z di Nepal.
Mereka memprotes pemblokiran akses media sosial seperti Facebook, X dan Youtube di negara tersebut.
Pemerintah Nepal memutuskan memblokir itu karena perusahaan media sosial gagal mendaftar dan tunduk pada pengawasan pemerintah Nepal.
Setelah memicu protes besar, pemblokiran itu dicabut pada Senin (8/9) malam waktu setempat.
Namun aksi unjuk rasa tidak mereda justru menjadi makin ricuh dan melebar.
Kritikan yang disampaikan massa demonstran juga melebar lebih luas terhadap kebijakan pemerintah Nepal hingga tuduhan korupsi di kalangan elite politik negara tersebut.
Aksi demonstrasi semakin memanas ketika petugas kepolisian menembakan gas air mata ke arah massa aksi. (Tribun-Video.com/Kompas.com)
