El 18 de octubre, un blindado de la fuerza internacional en Haití cayó en una emboscada a las afueras de Puerto Príncipe y cuatro militares salvadoreños desaparecieron. En solo diez días, Nayib Bukele ha plantado en Haití más de 2.000 soldados, más de los que suma toda la fuerza internacional autorizada por la ONU. Oficialmente, solo quiere traerlos de vuelta.
Haití es un país donde las bandas controlan cerca del 90 % de la capital. Los políticos las armaron durante veinte años para ganar elecciones, y tras el terremoto de 2010 y el asesinato de Jovenel Moïse en 2021 acabaron mandando por su cuenta. Los marines de 1915, la operación Uphold Democracy, los cascos azules de la MINUSTAH y los policías kenianos ganaron combates, y todos acabaron fracasando.
