SPEKTAKULÄRE RETTUNG: Deutsche Backpackerin Carolina Wilga überlebt zwölf Tage in Australiens SteppeCarolina Wilga (26) aus Castrop-Rauxel ist nach einer dramatischen Odyssee im australischen Outback lebend geborgen worden. Sie war am 29. Juni zuletzt in Beacon (Western Australia) gesehen und hatte ab diesem Zeitpunkt jeglichen Kontakt abgebrochen .
Ihr Fahrzeug – ein älterer Mitsubishi-Van – blieb in der Karroun Hill Nature Reserve stecken, etwa 150–200 km nordöstlich von Perth. Ein Polizeihubschrauber entdeckte das Auto am Donnerstag, einen Tag vor ihrer Rettung.
Die ausgehungerte, dehydrierte und traumatisierte Carolina irrte noch rund 24 km von ihrem Wagen entfernt umher, bevor sie am Freitag von einer Passantin gefunden wurde. Ermittler beschreiben ihren Überlebenskampf als „Wunder“: Wilga überlebte in extremer Kälte (bis 0 °C), trank Regen- und Pfützenwasser, suchte in Höhlen Schutz und widerstand Moskitos und Erschöpfung.
