In this video Matthew King plays Erik Satie's 6th Gnossienne, an fascinating and enigmatic piece, in which the order of phrases is shuffled and reshuffled and the key shifts each time. Throughout the piece, Satie changes the harmony on every single beat so that all triads are visited. The whole piece has a strangely restless quality. The score is marked 'Avec conviction et avec une tristesse rigoureuse' ("with conviction and with a rigorous sadness").
