This is the eighth short film in my "Dinosauria Animated Series", but the third film of Dinosauria Volume 2.
"Monsters Down Under" explores the bizarre world of Early Cretaceous Australia. Over 100 million years ago the continent was attached to Antarctica, located far further south on the globe. It was less hot and dry, and more cold and wet, and an inland sea covered a large amount of Australia's landmass.
I wanted the dinosaurs and pterosaurs in this frigid place to feel somewhat familiar to us, acting like modern animals simply trying to survive, but my main goal for this film was to explore the truly otherworldly landscape of the Eromanga Inland Sea. An unfamiliar and ancient world full of almost unknowable sea monsters; the home of Kronosaurus queenslandicus.
I treated this film almost like I was making a documentary tour of another planet - this was a very real and functional ecosystem, but a totally alien one.
