Federal and local officials spar over Minneapolis ICE shooting

We are watching as people gather outside the federal Whipple Building in Minneapolis in protest a day after an ICE official fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Good. Community members planned an "emergency nonviolent protest" to the Whipple Building to demand ICE leave Minnesota. According to a press release, "ICE has been terrorizing our immigrant neighbors and has now horrifyingly murdered a community member in cold blood." LiveNOW’s Shawna Khalafi is speaking with Law Enforcement Expert, Jamie Copenhaver, as federal and local officials determine how the investigation into the shooting will continue.

Mayor Frey disputed federal claims that the killing of a protester in south Minneapolis on Wednesday was an act of self-defense, saying, "They are already trying to spin this as an action of self-defense. Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everyone directly: that is bullshit."

DHS Secretary Noem directly responded to that statement hours later, saying, "He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It’s very clear that this individual was harassing and impeding law enforcement operations. Our officer followed his training, did exactly what he was trained to do and took actions to defend himself."
