La Verità pubblica un'indiscrezione che vede al centro Francesco Saverio Garofani, consigliere del Presidente della Repubblica Sergio Mattarella. "Un anno e mezzo di tempo forse non basta per trovare qualcuno che batta il centrodestra: ci vorrebbe un provvidenziale scossone", avrebbe detto il consigliere ex deputato PD in un luogo pubblico. L'intenzione, per il direttore del quotidiano Maurizio Belpietro, sarebbe quella di fermare il Governo Meloni prima che possa vincere ancora e avere più spazio di manovra nel 2029 per eleggere il prossimo Capo dello Stato. Riprende la notizia il capogruppo di Fratelli d'Italia alla Camera, Galeazzo Bignami, e scoppia il caos.
Le opposizioni gridano alla "bufala", i giornali scrivono del "presunto complotto". Questo dopo la replica del Colle, che definisce l'indiscrezione un "attacco costruito". Poi la caccia a Bignami. I giornalisti sono pronti a rifare il titolo: "Ecco chi è X", con tutti gli "scheletri nell'armadio" del caso per tentare di screditarlo. Fino alla dichiarazione più importante: quella dello stesso Garofani, che al Corriere dice che era solo una "chiacchierata in libertà tra amici", senza specificare chiaramente una presa di distanza dalle frasi attribuitegli. Garofani poi spiega: "Il Presidente mi ha rassicurato". Ma cosa vorrà dire?
