Hablamos con la aclamada artista y escritora Molly Crabapple acerca de su nuevo libro “Here Where We Live Is Our Country: The Story of the Jewish Bund” (Aquí donde vivimos está nuestro país: la historia del Bund judío). Aunque hoy en gran medida ha caído en el olvido, la Unión General de Trabajadores Judíos de Lituania, Polonia y Rusia —el Bund— fue un poderoso partido revolucionario laico y socialista que luchó por la libertad y la dignidad de la gente judía de Europa. El movimiento fue creado en los últimos tiempos del Imperio ruso, en una atmósfera de intenso antisemitismo, pero “desde el principio, rechazó los llamados a crear un etnoestado judío en Palestina”, señala Crabapple. “Sentían que el sionismo era una capitulación ante los mismos fanáticos que querían expulsar a los judíos de Europa”.
Desde la fundación del movimiento, en 1897, hasta su destrucción final en el Holocausto, los miembros del Bund, conocidos como bundistas, atravesaron profundos cambios históricos. Sin embargo, Crabapple —que estudió yidis para escribir el libro— dice que el Bund no solo es parte de la historia judía.
“Es una historia que pertenece a todos los rebeldes. Pertenece a todas las personas que creen en la necesidad humana de solidaridad”, afirma Crabapple.
