İnsanın görme duyusu ile yakından ilgilenen Thomas Young 1700lerin sonunda bu duyuyu daha iyi anlamak amacıyla çalışmalarını ışık üzerine yoğunlaştırıyor. İnsanın renk algısını, farklı renkleri nasıl gördüğünü açıklamak için çıktığı bu yolda, tıp öğrencisi olan Thomas Young fizik dünyasında çok önemli bir kilidi çözecekti.Young Deneyi ya da daha genel anlamda Çift Yarık Deneyi olarak bildiğimiz bu deney aslında basit bir düzenekle, sizin de evde deneyebileceğiniz bir deneydir ve basit şekilde birbirine çok yakın, çok dar iki yarıktan ışık geçtiğinde karşıdaki bir plaka üzerinde “girişim deseni” olarak bildiğimiz bir desenin ortaya çıktığı bir deneydir. Bu da bize ışığın bir dalga olduğunu, dalga gibi davrandığını göstermiştir. Tıpkı durgun bir suya atılan iki taşın dalgalarının birbirini keserek ilerlemesi gibi… Garipti. Fakat önceki videolarda da konuştuğumuz gibi. Einstein fotoelektrik etki ile ışığın parçacık gibi davranabildiğini de kanıtlamıştı. Ancak kütlesi olmayan ışığın bu şekilde davranması o kadar da ilginç gelmeyebilir. Yani bir noktaya kadar anlayabiliriz. Fakat. Aynı deneyi kütlesi olan parçacıklarla, misal elektronlarla gerçekleştirdiğimizde ne olur sizce? Her şeyin asıl ilginçleştiği yer de tam olarak burası işte.
