Revolutionary Classical Music
Tumult in the streets. Repressed for too long, the voice of the people rises, a chorus clamouring in unison.
This is a musical collection presaging things to come, to fight injustice and tyranny, to shake off the yoke of bondage, to finally see the system for what it is. From the French and American Revolutions and Beethoven’s tangling with heroism, to the great nation-building upheavals of the 19th century and Dvorak’s ominous, but ultimately hopeful, Symphony No. 7, up to the 20th century’s fights for liberation, and Shostakovich’s Gadfly Suite and stirring choirs.
So, what are you waiting for? You were born free. It is time to break the chains.
Vive la Revolution! ¡Viva la Revolución! Long live the Revolution!
