Thailand-Cambodia Clashes: PM Hun Manet Writes To UN After Fresh Border Skirmishes

Clashes reignited between Thailand and Cambodia after Cambodian civilians tried to remove barbed wire, laid by Thai forces in the disputed border area. In response, Thai forces fired tear gas and rubber bullets while the civilians retaliated by hurling wooden sticks and stones. Videos of the clashes showed Cambodian villagers armed with long sticks facing off with Thai authorities. According to the Thai military, the clashes injured more than 20 people, while Cambodia claimed that more than 28 people were wounded, including monks. The Cambodian information minister said the stand-off took place on Cambodia's territory at Prey Chan village. Thailand refers to the same area as its own. After the clashes, Cambodian PM Hun Manet wrote a letter to the UN, accusing Thailand of "widening the conflict zone". The incident marked the first significant escalation since the deadly conflict in July that killed at least 43 people on both sides. The five-day-long conflict ended with a truce brokered by US President Donald Trump's involvement.
