Dans les années 1960, aux États-Unis, un jeune Rav arrive dans une petite communauté juive isolée et constate une assimilation inquiétante : les enfants ne fréquentent pas d’école juive et les infrastructures communautaires sont quasi inexistantes. Il lance alors un vaste projet pour bâtir une école juive et assurer la transmission du judaïsme. À l’approche de la rentrée, faute d’inscriptions, le Rav fait du porte-à-porte. Il rencontre un père de famille totalement éloigné de la pratique, qui refuse catégoriquement d’inscrire ses enfants à l’école juive… tout en lui faisant un don exceptionnel pour soutenir le projet. Le Rav découvre avec surprise que, malgré leur éloignement, cette famille respecte la Cacheroute de manière très rigoureuse.
