At 25 years old, Leopold Aschenbrenner controlled one of the hottest AI hedge funds on Wall Street. Then roughly $35 Billion disappeared in days.His fund had made huge leveraged bets on AI infrastructure companies like CoreWeave, Bloom Energy, and semiconductor stocks. As long as AI stocks kept rising, the strategy produced spectacular returns. But leverage works both ways. When the portfolio dropped sharply in July 2026, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and Bank of America issued margin calls. Aschenbrenner suddenly needed billions in cash and was forced to liquidate his public portfolio. Citadel stepped in and bought the assets at a discount. Then many of those same stocks immediately rebounded.
