MIDTERMS: "Das wird nicht mehr so einfach für Trump" - Auch für Europa werden US-Wahlen gefährlich!Die US-Midterms könnten Donald Trumps zweite Amtszeit entscheidend verändern. WELT-Chefkorrespondent für Außenpolitik Clemens Wergin hält es für möglich, dass die Demokraten beide Kammern des Kongresses gewinnen. Für Europa und die Ukraine sieht er darin Chancen, aber auch erhebliche Risiken: Einerseits könnte der Kongress Trumps Russlandpolitik stärker kontrollieren. Andererseits könnte der Präsident innenpolitische Blockaden mit einer noch aggressiveren Außenpolitik beantworten – etwa durch einen weiteren US-Truppenabzug aus Europa oder zusätzlichen Druck auf Kiew. Auch im Iran-Konflikt stehen wichtige Entscheidungen bevor. Wergin erklärt, warum Europas Einfluss auf mögliche Ukraine-Friedensverhandlungen begrenzt bleiben dürfte.
