Imprisoned Iranian Nobel Peace laureate Narges Mohammadi reportedly in critical condition | DW News
Iranian human rights activist and Nobel Peace laureate Narges Mohammadi is reportedly in critical condition after being transferred from prison to a Tehran hospital. Her supporters are warning that her life is in danger due to ailing health.Mohammadi has been released on bail and granted a temporary suspension of her sentence. The 54-year-old has spent more than a decade of her life in jail. She was arrested again in December 2025 and convicted on charges relating to national security and espionage. Her foundation says her sentence still has 18 years to run.
In a joint statement, 113 Nobel prize winners called for her urgent and unconditional release, demanding that all charges against her be dropped. Narges Mohammadi was awarded the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran.
