'Treason': Indonesia Arrests 3 Generals, Deploys 20,000 Troops in Presidential Spy Scandal | Vantage
Indonesia is facing a major surveillance scandal after authorities uncovered an alleged spying operation within the country’s own police force. The alleged targets reportedly included journalists, politicians, business leaders, cabinet ministers and even President Prabowo Subianto. Three senior police officers have been arrested, including former national police chief and presidential chief of staff Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who has since been removed from his post. In this video, Firstpost examines how a system meant for lawful phone interception was allegedly misused, the political connections surrounding the investigation and the questions it raises about Prabowo’s government. With the investigation still in its early stages, the scandal puts Indonesia’s police force, political loyalties and surveillance powers under scrutiny. Hem Saroya tells you more.---
