At the helm is Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is set for a historic third term. But the opposition INDIA Bloc managed to dent the support for the BJP. The Bhartiya Janata party won 240 seats out of 543 in the Lok Sabha, falling short of the 272 mark. It is a far cry from the 303 and 282 seats the BJP had won in the 2019 and 2014 elections respectively. For the first time in 10 years, the BJP needs to hold on tight to its allies. The party has also faced a crushing defeat in the state of Uttar Pradesh that sends 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha. The NDA is set to form a government with 292 seats.
