Rebellious Curiosity: The Radical Act of Asking | Mohamed Benmansour | TEDxMontgomery College

Curious minds have powered acts of resistance throughout history. Systems of oppression, from colonialism to racism, rely on controlling knowledge and discouraging inquiry, thus locking minds. Those who dared to ask disrupted these systems, leading to the key to unlearning harmful narratives, reclaiming hidden histories and truths, and exposing oppressive structures. Mohamed Benmansour is a first-generation dually enrolled student at Montgomery College and Northwest High School. With a passion for community-building, he has founded and currently directs a youth-led organization ("Third Place Movement") focused on promoting, defending, and creating third places. With exceptional academic honors, he directs environmental education for international non-profit Eco MoCo and acts as student infrastructure policy director for MCPS SAC. Across his achievements, he highlights an importance for family, community, and justice and hopes to pursue a career in architecture in the future. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx Receive SMS online on sms24.me
