Temuan ini diumumkan oleh kantor media pemerintah Gaza di tengah blokade dan distribusi bantuan yang diatur oleh Israel.
Pil-pil yang ditemukan dalam bantuan tersebut diidentifikasi sebagai oxycodone, obat penghilang rasa sakit yang sering diresepkan untuk pasien kanker.
Obat ini tergolong keras dan harus digunakan dengan resep dokter karena memiliki efek yang mengancam nyawa, termasuk komplikasi pernapasan dan halusinasi.
Sementara itu, merujuk informasi dari situs Medlineplus.gov, penggunaan oksikodon dapat menimbulkan efek samping serius seperti gangguan pernapasan, sakit perut, sakit kepala, hingga halusinasi.
Belum diketahui secara pasti dari mana pil tersebut masuk ke dalam tepung. Namun otoritas lokal menilai hal ini sebagai bagian dari upaya 'jahat dan sistematis' untuk melemahkan ketahanan masyarakat Gaza melalui cara non-konvensional.
