$70,000 to Work in US? Indian Students Hit As Trump Proposes New Fee | Firstpost America
For thousands of international students, an American degree has long been seen as a pathway to a career — and potentially a life — in the United States. But a new proposal from the Trump administration could put a staggering $70,000 price tag on that pathway. The proposed measure would require schools to pay $70,000 for each new student entering the Optional Practical Training (OPT) programme, with a proposed $30,000 fee for renewals. OPT allows eligible F-1 international students to work in jobs related to their field of study during or after their education in the US. The proposal is not yet final. It is subject to a public comment period before the Department of Homeland Security can decide whether to implement it. So what could this mean for international students — particularly the hundreds of thousands of Indian students studying in America? Daniela Laurel brings you the details on Firstpost America.---
