Tak hanya mengundang protes dari warga, kartun kontroversial tersebut juga membuat Presiden Recep Tayyip Erdogan marah besar.
Dikutip dari Anadolu Agency, kartun Nabi Muhammad itu diterbitkan oleh majalah LeMan pada 26 Juni 2024.
Digambarkan bahwa Nabi Muhammad sedang berjabat tangan dengan Nabi Musa di atas kota yang telah menjadi puing-puing.
Kartun tersebut menyinggung perang antara Israel-Iran yang belakangan ini terjadi.
Menurut Erdogan, pembuatan kartun semacam itu adalah tindakan provokasi dan termasuk dalam ujaran kebencian.
Ia pun mendukung proses hukum kepada pihak yang terlibat pembuatan kartun tersebut.
"Mereka yang bersikap kurang ajar terhadap nabi kami dan nabi-nabi lainnya akan dimintai pertanggungjawaban di hadapan hukum," ujar Erdogan saat bertemu Kepala Provinsi Partai Keadilan dan Pembangunan (AK), Selasa (1/7/2025).
Sementara itu, protes meletus di luar kantor majalah LeMan di Istanbul pada Senin (30/6/2025).
Massa bahkan terlibat bentrok dengan polisi karena memaksa masuk.
Dalam Islam, penggambaran visual para nabi memang dilarang dan Turki adalah negara yang mayoritas penduduknya Muslim.
Saat ini, polisi telah menahan empat orang termasuk pembuat kartun tersebut.
