Doug Ford BLASTS Carney over Chinese EV deal
The federal government is defending a newly announced trade agreement with China that will see Canada loosen tariff barriers on tens of thousands of Chinese-made electric vehicles. In exchange, Beijing has committed to easing import restrictions on Canadian canola and other goods. The announcement triggered sharp reaction across the country, particularly in Ontario, where the auto industry remains a cornerstone of the provincial economy. Premier Doug Ford warned the move could open the floodgates to subsidized foreign vehicles, putting domestic manufacturers and supply chains at risk while inflaming tensions with the United States — the destination for the vast majority of Canadian-built vehicles.
Carney has described the agreement as part of a shifting global landscape, referring to it as preparation for a “new world order.”
Canadians for Affordable Energy president Dan McTeague joins Marc Patrone to discuss whether the deal represents pragmatic trade policy — or a costly misstep for Canada’s economy and sovereignty.
