My Biggest Mule Deer Ever! Bowhunting Giant free ranging Mule Deer with BEAST BROADHEADS doesn't get any better than thisOn this episode of Bowmar Bowhunting, we head south of the border to Sonora, Mexico in pursuit of one of North America’s most legendary trophies — the giant Sonora Desert mule deer. After years of drought and declining deer numbers, many outfitters warned us that this might be the worst possible year to hunt mule deer in the Sonoran Desert. But sometimes the biggest rewards come from taking the biggest risks.
What started as a dream hunt quickly turned into an unpredictable adventure. From lost luggage and hunting in borrowed gear, to Mexican military checkpoints, to sudden desert rain that completely changed deer movement patterns — nothing about this hunt went according to plan.
But after days of grinding across 200,000 acres of wild free-range desert, glassing mountains, checking trail cameras, and adjusting strategy on the fly… everything changed in an instant.
Right before dark, a world-class mule deer buck exploded across the road chasing does during the rut. What followed was a heart-pounding stalk through thick Sonoran desert brush that ended with a 48-yard bow shot and a complete pass-through on one of the biggest mule deer of my life.
When the dust settled and the buck was finally taped… he measured an unbelievable 190 inches.
This hunt was on 100% free-range desert ground with my friend Enrique from Terranova Hunting Ranch, who manages thousands of acres of incredible mule deer habitat in northern Mexico.
