US-Präsident Trump in Irland: Golf, Politik und Proteste

Donald Trump ist am Vormittag zu einem zweitägigen Besuch in Irland eingetroffen. Der US-Präsident will in Dublin mit Premier Martin und Präsidentin Connolly zusammenkommen.
„Das erste Aufeinandertreffen war sehr höflich, doch ein wenig zurückhaltend“, sagt ARD-Korrespondentin Mareike Aden. „Trump selber hat immer von Connelly als ein Mann gesprochen, wusste also gar nicht, dass es eine Präsidentin ist in Irland. Es gibt jene, die in Irland sagen, Connelly muss das ansprechen. Andere sagen, lieber keinen Porzellan zertrümmern in diesen Beziehungen.“
Nach den politischen Gesprächen will Trump in die Küstenstadt Doonbeg reisen. Dort findet derzeit ein Golfturnier auf Trumps eigenem Golfplatz statt. Kritiker:innen des US-Präsidenten haben Proteste angekündigt. „Für Trump ist das Ganze ein Vergnügen, aber für die Iren ist es auch eine ein großer Kraftakt“, sagt Aden. „Die irische Polizei spricht von dem größten Einsatz von Sicherheitskräften und Polizisten in der irischen Geschichte.“
