Sorretta da valori comuni, capace di assicurare pace, diritti, prosperità diffusi a un gruppo di stati, adusi per secoli a combattersi l'un l'altro. I suoi successi sono indiscutibili e per questo talvolta invidiati e osteggiati, al pari della sua attrattività tuttora intensa e vitale". Così parlò Sergio Mattarella.
A rigore sembra che il Presidente della Repubblica stia parlando di un'altra realtà. Sicuramente non dell'Unione Europea così come l'abbiamo tragicamente vissuta fino a oggi. Ciò ricorda irresistibilmente quelle pubblicità che reclamizzano prodotti di cui magnificano le virtù, ma che poi, una volta acquistati, non corrispondono minimamente all'elogio pubblicitario. Quali sarebbero di grazia i diritti che l'Unione Europea ha reso disponibili e che precedentemente mancavano negli stati nazionali europei? Riuscite a individuarne almeno uno?
