Por invitación del presidente tayiko, Emomali Rahmon, el presidente chino, Xi Jinping, realizó una visita de Estado a Tayikistán del 4 al 6 de julio.Durante la visita, los dos jefes de Estado anunciaron conjuntamente el desarrollo de una asociación cooperativa estratégica integral entre China y Tayikistán en la nueva era. El presidente Xi Jinping también otorgó al presidente Emomali Rahmon la "Medalla de la Amistad", la más alta medalla honorífica extranjera de la República Popular China. Esta es la primera vez que China otorga la "Medalla de la Amistad" en el extranjero.
