This Is Our Story | Episode 4: 40 Days | Iran Protests
After the crackdown of 8 and 9 January 2026, families across Iran searched for loved ones who never came home. Then came the funerals, and forty days later, the memorials.The search continued through the nights that followed, as more bodies were brought to Kahrizak and to hospitals and mortuaries across the country. The footage recorded during those hours offers only a glimpse of what people were living through: families searching among the bodies, parents calling out the names of their children, and the shock of discovering the scale of what had happened.
Then came the funerals, and a different kind of struggle. At many of them, families' defiance took different forms. They danced in the midst of grief, called their loved ones heroes, and spoke proudly of those they said had given their lives for their homeland. For many, mourning became more than a farewell. It became a way of keeping alive their loved ones' names, their hopes, and the cause that had brought them onto the streets.
Forty days later, that defiance had not faded.
The final episode of This Is Our Story follows that journey from the desperate search for those who never came home, through burial and mourning, to the forty-day memorials where grief, remembrance and defiance continued.
