Mitten in Deutschland arbeitet die Nato an einem neuen Verteidigungskonzept für ihre Ostflanke. In Wiesbaden testen Militärs, Entwickler und Strategen, wie Drohnen, künstliche Intelligenz und digitale Netzwerke künftige Konflikte verhindern oder entscheiden könnten. Im Zentrum steht die „Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative“ (EFDI), die auf vernetzte unbemannte Systeme, Echtzeit-Daten und schnellere Entscheidungen setzt. Soldaten zeigen, wie Drohnen über Hunderte Kilometer ferngesteuert werden und warum nicht die einzelne Waffe, sondern die Vernetzung aller Systeme der entscheidende Faktor sein soll. Die Verantwortlichen betonen dabei: Entscheidungen über militärische Einsätze sollen weiterhin von Menschen getroffen werden.
