Ruderi e grattacieli si alternano lungo la via Marina recentemente riqualificata, lasciando quantomeno perplessi i numerosi turisti che quotidianamente scendono dalle navi da crociera o accedono agli imbarchi per le isole. Ma la strada che costeggia il porto offre da decenni questa insolita rassegna architettonica. Almeno da quando furono eretti i palazzoni di vetro e cemento nel corso della speculazione edilizia degli anni Cinquanta.
In quel periodo molti vecchi stabili della zona furono abbattuti, ma alcuni rimasero in piedi (più o meno) in attesa di autorizzazioni o passaggi amministrativi che evidentemente non sono mai avvenuti, con la logica conseguenza dell’improprio riutilizzo dei vetusti fabbricati pericolanti, negli anni abitati abusivamente o utilizzati come magazzini. Neanche il restyling della via ha potuto cancellare la mortificante processione dei cadenti muraglioni di tufo, ai quali si sono aggiunti, per completare il desolante spettacolo, gli scheletri dei distributori di benzina dismessi.
