Deuxième volet : dans les années 1970, sous l'égide de figures américaines plus radicales, comme le télévangéliste Jerry Falwell ou le théologien Francis Schaeffer, l'influence d'une droite chrétienne intransigeante, arc-boutée sur la défense des valeurs familiales rigoristes, favorise en 1980 l'élection de Ronald Reagan.
La lutte contre l'avortement devient le fer de lance du combat évangélique contre la sécularisation de la société. Quarante ans après, les élections de Trump et Bolsonaro, en 2016 et 2018, illustrent la puissance du mouvement, notamment au Brésil, qui fut longtemps la plus grande nation catholique au monde. En 2022, le Front parlementaire évangélique y a conquis 35 % des sièges au Congrès.
