But the same institution that provides security can also become controlling when advice turns into permission and care turns into an expectation of obedience.
True independence may not be about leaving home. It may be about having the freedom to make your own decisions while still staying connected to your family. Independence does not have to mean isolation, and belonging does not have to mean obedience.
