C'è un tunnel buio lungo quindici anni nella storia d'Italia. Lo chiamarono strategia della tensione — un'espressione coniata dal settimanale inglese The Observer nel dicembre del 1969 — e sotto quel nome trovarono posto stragi, depistaggi, trame oscure e corpi lasciati sull'asfalto. L'obiettivo era uno solo: creare paura. Abbastanza paura da far accettare alla gente leggi liberticide, governi autoritari, la resa silenziosa alla propria sovranità. Terrorizzare per governare. Fomentare il caos per vendere l'ordine.
Per farlo si usarono le frange estremiste — di destra e di sinistra, indifferentemente — come strumenti nelle mani di servizi segreti che rispondevano ad altre logiche, ad altri centri di potere. Vincenzo Vinciguerra, terrorista neofascista di Ordine Nuovo, condannato e reo confesso per la strage di Peteano, lo disse esplicitamente: quando parlò della strage di Bologna fece riferimenti precisi alla struttura clandestina anticomunista della NATO in Italia, quella che sarebbe diventata nota come Organizzazione Gladio. Il 24 ottobre 1990 Giulio Andreotti ne rivelò l'esistenza alla Camera dei Deputati. Nel giro di poche settimane venne a galla l'intera rete Stay Behind: gruppi paramilitari che operavano in tutti i paesi membri della NATO, pronti a intervenire per condizionare la politica interna dei paesi del blocco occidentale.
Ma questa è la storia ufficiale, quella che alla fine è stata ammessa. Quello che voglio raccontarvi è il pezzo che non è mai stato ammesso davvero. Quello che un uomo aveva già capito tutto, e che per questo è stato ucciso.
