Sorotan publik mencuat setelah tragedi ambruknya sebuah bangunan musala di Ponpes Al Khoziny, Sidoarjo, Jawa Timur.
Terkait hal ini, Ketua Umum PBNU KH Yahya Cholil Staquf menegaskan bahwa kegiatan santri mengecor bangunan bukan masuk kategori eksploitasi, melainkan sebuah tradisi yang dilakukan para santri di lingkungan ponpes, Jumat (10/10/2025).
"Itu bukan eksploitasi, itu kan tradisi," kata pria yang akrab disapa Gus Yahya itu.
"Kegiatannya bukan cuma belajar untuk mengisi otak saja, untuk mengisi akal saja, bukan hanya belajar mencari kitab-kitab, pengetahuan tapi juga melatih diri melatih dengan berkhidmat, melatih membersihkan jiwa dan memberikan pelayanan dengan niat yang tulus," ujarnya.
Menurut Gus Yahya, tradisi tersebut juga merupakan penerapan pendidikan yang ada di lingkungan pesantren.
Apalagi, kata Gus Yahya, pondok pesantren bukan merupakan lembaga ataupun badan usaha yang hanya mencari keuntungan.
"Pesantren itu bukan badan usaha dengan bisnis untuk mendapatkan keuntungan, pesantren itu keberadaannya adalah hikmah, hikmah yang non-profit, hikmah yang disediakan secara ikhlas untuk anak-anak yang mendapatkan, menghadapi masalah bersama, tantangan bersama dengan bersatu dan kerja sama semua," pungkasnya.
